City of Angels and its impact on me

March 12th, 2012

I cried buckets of tears at the end of this movie, but there’s no doubt that City of Angels ranks high in my list of favorite spiritual movies. It tells the story of an angel whose mission is to guide people who are nearing death into the spiritual world and who falls in love with a human being and gives up his angelic status to be with her. Nicholas Cage plays this role very passionately and Meg Ryan as the doctor he falls for is the apt foil to his brooding angel.

Seth (Cage) is impressed with Maggie’s (Ryan) dedication to her job and her zest for life. He reveals himself to her and slowly falls for her. When he tells her that he is an angel, she has trouble accepting his identity and rejects him. Seth wants to become human to be with Maggie, so he gives up his angelic status by falling off a skyscraper (after learning how it’s done from another angel-turned-human who did the same).

He has no money and no job, and when he is unable to find Maggie at the hospital, he follows her to her cabin in the mountains. He is mugged and robbed on the way and arrives at her doorstep bleeding and injured. Maggie realizes that he has become human in order to be with her and they rejoice in their togetherness. But that is short lived as she dies the next day in an accident and is escorted to the spiritual realm by Seth’s angel friend. The movie ends on a positive note with Seth proclaiming that he does not regret becoming human because even a second spent with Maggie was worth the sacrifice.

This movie made a profound impact on me because it showcases the power of love. It tells us that no sacrifice is too great for love and that if one wants, one can do anything for true love. Also, the sad ending made me realize that nothing is permanent and that we must be prepared to deal with life’s blows just as we enjoy the blessings it gives us.

Seth embracing his new life as a human even though the reason he gave up being an angel no longer exists showed me that we are responsible for our choices and that we must accept the consequences for our actions without blaming others. Only then is it possible to live life peacefully and contentedly.

The Living Matrix Movie

March 11th, 2012

Mind, intention, belief…can these factors influence healing? Can science explain “miracle” cures? A groundbreaking new film, The Living Matrix addresses these questions and explores how quantum physics, energy fields, and consciousness directly affects our health and well-being.

For the first time leading scientists, researchers, and holistic practitioners share the latest science and alternative concepts that are revolutionizing healthcare as we know it. The film premiered to sold out audiences in London and Los Angeles and is now available on DVD.

THE LIVING MATRIX reveals how energy and information fields are as influential as genetics in determining human health, physiology and biochemistry. The film illustrates the undeniable benefits of integrating alternative healing modalities into conventional healthcare and advocates shifting from a disease centered system to a healing centered model. Ellen DeGeneres Commencement Speech at Tulane

March 10th, 2012

Ellen DeGeneres gave the 2009 Commencement Speech at Tulane. During that speech, she talked about how a tragic event led her to find her life purpose….

She was 19 years-old and her girlfriend was killed in a car accident. At that time Ellen was living in a basement apartment, had no money and no idea what she wanted to do with her life. She began to do some serious soul-searching and wanted to know why her friend died, what she was going to do with her life and what her purpose in life was. During her talk, she says,

“Wouldn’t it be so convenient if we could just pick up the phone and call God and ask Him all these questions”

This moment of desperate inspiration prompted Ellen to write down her own one-sided conversation with God and what poured out of her was the realization that she was going to do stand up comedy on Johnny Carson and be the first woman in the history of the show to be called over to sit next to Johnny after doing stand up on his show…Well, several years later Ellen appeared on Johnny Carson and was the first and only woman in the history of the show to do stand up comedy and then be invited to sit next to Johnny Carson.

The Way of the Superior Man

March 9th, 2012

Deida The Way of the Superior Man – A Spiritual Guide to Mastering the Challenges of Women, Work, and Sexual Desire is a book that immediately grabs your attention simply based on its title. The author, David Deida, backs up these claims in the title with a “no non-sense” practical guidebook for living a masculine life of integrity, authenticity and freedom.

David writes, “It is time to evolve beyond the macho jerk ideal, all spine and no heart…It is also time to evolve beyond the sensitive and caring wimp ideal, all heart and no spine.” The Way of the Superior Man presents the ultimate challenge — and reward — for today’s man: to discover the “unity of heart and spine” through the full expression of consciousness and love in the infinite openness of the present moment. Or as Ken Wilber puts it, “Finally, a guide for the noncastrated male. This book will offend and infuriate some, inspire and test others, but challenge virtually everybody.”

With straightforward advice, David Deida writes about the importance of living our true purpose in life. Often by using blunt examples, David also shows that the cost of not living our true purpose is a loss of strength, freedom and integrity which hurts our relationships, career and sex life. However, when we are pursuing our mission in life, we are filled with a sense of direction that results in a type of freedom, fulfillment and personal strength that helps us master the challenges of women, work and sexual desire.

Joan of Arcadia TV show and Divine Will

March 7th, 2012

-

This article is a Guest Post about Joan of Arcadiacontributed by Robert Schwartz, author of Your Soul’s Plan:Discovering the Real Meaning of the Life You Planned Before You Were Born.

One of my all-time favorite TV shows is Joan of Arcadia. The series is available on DVD. I recently watched the first season again and found it just as touching, funny and insightful as I did when it first debuted on television.

In this sweet, divinely inspired show, the main character Joan (Amber Tamblyn), a high school student, keeps meeting God in many different guises: an old woman at a bookstore; the telephone line repairman; the lunch lady in the school cafeteria; the rebellious peer at school. In each instance, God asks something of Joan, always something Joan does not want to do. When the request is first made, Joan cannot see the workings of the Divine Mind. God’s request appears – and is – completely illogical to her. Yet, as Joan consciously chooses trust over fear, she allows God to work in and through her. And as she does, she brings light into the world.

This is, indeed, the way the Universe works. Divine Will arises within us as an impulse, a feeling that we want to do something, a sense (often illogical) of what steps we need to take. Unaware that these impulses have a Divine origin, most of us then reason ourselves out of the impulse, deferring instead to the voice of the fear-based ego that seeks to protect us.

The intelligent story lines in Joan of Arcadia make clear just how intimately connected all lives are. As Joan listens to and follows the suggestions of God, she touches one life, which then touches another, which then touches another . . . until
an intricate, elaborate web of connection is revealed for all to see. Joan is then blessed with something most of us will see only in our life review: the profound impact we had on others.

Joan of Arcadia beautifully illustrates how Divine Will wants to and will work through us to enlighten the world – if only we will allow.

How to create a magnetic web site to sell transformational entertainment

March 6th, 2012

Transformational entertainment is still in its infancy, and until it becomes mainstream, independent publishers must find innovative ways to promote their work and get it into the hands of the people who will resonate the most.

A web site or blog is a great way to start – but unless it’s created strategically to attract your ideal audience, your efforts won’t translate into sales.

Today, we talk with Karen M. Black, the author of Moondance, who’s created the niche web site The Soulmate Site, strategically created to showcase her writing, sell her novel Moondance and steadily build a loyal following – on a shoestring budget.

In this interview, Karen shares how and why she built a niche site, the hottest niches right now, and how you can build one for yourself, even if you have no web experience. She’ll also share how karmic astrology fits in with her work, plus some profitable ideas on how to sell and package your transformational entertainment.

Karen has her MBA and spent 20 years in corporate as a consultant. She’s also a karmic astrologer and the author of the novel Moondance, an addictive spin on life, love and the nature of reality. You can listen to our interview by clicking the play button below:

How Amidst Destruction One Can Find Joy

March 2nd, 2012

Upon learning that the previous owner of her home was a victim of suicidal depression, author Barbara Richardson made a silent promise: to turn that farmhouse into a house of joy. In her new book, Guest House, she fulfills that promise.

Guest House is a fictional novel that weaves together the burdens and joys of one outwardly accomplished go-getter, Melba Burns and one shy, imaginative and neglected kid, Matt Garry. After witnessing a terrible accident, Melba has retreated from the world; she’s abandoned her high-achieving life, she’s stopped driving her car, and she avoids human contact. Her sheltered world starts to crumble when Matt, a courageous and ingenious boy with troubled parents finds his way into her heart.

I recently had a chance to interview Barbara about Guest House. She also talked about how it took her 18 years to get her first book published and gave some great advice for aspiring writers.

You can read a few highlights from our interview below and listen to our entire 20 minute conversation by clicking the play button.

Matt: Your characters deal with many challenges ranging from growing up with alcoholic and troubled parents, spousal abuse, being raised in a very strict and religious household, how to comfort those grieving, loneliness, and finding love. Do you have a personal connection to the issues raised in your book?

Barbara: I do. Yes I was raised in a really strict religion and had parents who sort of ignored me…And, I think the beautiful thing about living a spiritual life is that it’s not the circumstances, but what you do with them. To me it was so important to show the humanity of all these people, even the terrible actions of parents and friends. And, in all the confusion truly there is this beautiful thread running through it that you can be free when you learn how to surrender to those who love you and to the moment which provides all the care you could possibly need.

Matt: How do you find beauty in those moments of darkness when you have such terrible circumstances?

Barbara: . . . I saw a documentary on the Holocaust a couple nights ago. And, no there wasn’t joy in the camps there. But, these people managed to locate the joy in their heart in these most difficult circumstances because they were true to themselves. If you’re true to your self, not your outer circumstances…joy is available to you every moment.
