K. Sparks Sunshine music video

October 21st, 2011

I was very excited to find this inspirational music video ‘Sunshine’ by K Sparks. The hook of the song, which is reprinted below sums up the message of the song and reminds us that good times are in store for us if we can keep shining.

“In time you’ll find sunshine, don’t cry, just dry ya tears now, In time
you’ll find sunshine, don’t cry, just dry ya tears now, so don’t you cry,
just shine, shine for me now, so don’t you cry, just shine, shine for me now.”

Angels Among Us TV Show

October 13th, 2011

Angels Among US is a new TV show on CMT that show true stories of people who have had first hand experiences with Angels intersecting in their life. According to the show’s web site:

Witness events that led up to a life-changing moment and an ultimate encounter with what can only be described as an angel. These are your friends, your neighbors — everyday people who against all odds have survived extreme events from catastrophic car crashes, to apocalyptic weather, debilitating diseases and even the biggest terrorist attack in U.S. history.

Each awe-inspiring episode features three incredible true-life tales of people who faced their darkest hour and saw a light. The uplifting hour-long series presents compelling firsthand accounts of life-and- death situations with carefully crafted re-creations, to bring viewers a one-of-a-kind look at the world of angel encounters.

Each episode will conclude with a follow-up to find out just how these people been impacted, where they are today and how they’ve applied the lessons they’ve learned to their current lives. Each story and each result will be personal, profound and unique — the one common thread being that each of our subjects was truly saved by an angel.

Whether it’s a shining light or a physical presence, these subjects are here to provide living testament that angels are real. At the end of every hour, even the most hardened skeptics will find it hard to deny there are indeed angels among us.

Brother’s Keeper film

October 7th, 2011

I’m not sure if this film is going to be good, but it has the potential to take a unique look at the power of forgiveness to heal. The synopsis from the film’s web site says:

Identical twins Andy and Pete Goodwynn have been side-by-side since the womb. But that’s about to change…

As their high school graduation nears, Pete plans to marry Maggie, the love of his life, and head off to school to become a preacher. Andy, who wants nothing to do with God, has no plans, no direction, and seemingly no future.

But in a cruel twist of fate—orchestrated by a rival for Maggie’s heart—Pete finds himself locked away in prison on trumped-up charges.

Will Andy be able to help Pete gain his rightful freedom? Will the brothers seek vengeance on those whose corruption and deceit have taken that freedom away? While revenge may seem sweet, BROTHER’S KEEPER is a powerful reminder that only forgiveness can truly heal.

Steve Jobs’ 2005 Stanford Commencement Address

October 5th, 2011

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future…You have to trust in something: your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever….Because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart even when it leads you off the wellworn path. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.” – Steve Jobs R.I.P…This quote came from the speech below, which is one of the most inspiring speeches I’ve ever heard…

The Hero’s Journey: Answering the Call to Adventure

September 30th, 2011

“We must be willing to get rid of the life that we’ve planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us.”

- Josepeh Campbell

“Finding Joe” is a documentary that interviews visionaries from a wide variety of fields on how Joseph Campbell’s teachings on ‘following your bliss’ and ‘The Hero’s Journey’ can be applied to our everyday life, including our challenges and personal dragons.

Finding Joe – Trailer V.7 from pat solomon on Vimeo.

While most inspirational documentaries focus on how good life can be if you get everything you want; “Finding Joe” stands out because it interviews real life people ranging from Deepak Chopra, Tony Hawk, to Rashida Jones about how their struggles, failures, and personal dragons were necessary to help them develop the capabilities to truly follow their bliss.

According to the film, everybody receives some sort of mysterious call to adventure or to awaken to a life previously unknown. Not everybody answers this call. However, those that do and then choose to act on this call embark on what Campbell and the film describe as ‘The Hero’s Journey.’

As the documentary portrays in vivid detail from popular movies, enactments of classic tales by a group of sweet and motley group of kids, and first hand accounts from real people ‘The Hero’s Journey’ is filled with a series of tests, trials, or ordeals a person must go through to begin and complete a transformation. Often a person will fail one or more of these tests. But, if the hero remains steadfast and open to unexpected help along the way, he or she will emerge victorious. For example, Campbell summarizes this process in “The Hero with a Thousand Faces” when he writes

“A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man.”

I had the chance to interview the filmmaker for “Finding Joe”, Patrick Solomon, and asked him what sort of dragons he faced in his personal journey. His answer was very insightful and eye-opening:

“On my own personal journey, there are a lot of challenges in making a movie. I went down this road when I first started this movie. And I shot a bunch of things. I went to Bali. I went to Jerusalem. I shot just a ton of film and interviewed a bunch of people and when I started to put that together it wasn’t working.

So, at some point, I had to admit that this wasn’t going to work and we got to take another path. But, that to me was a dragon. That was months and months of work and thousands and thousands of dollars that I kind of had to let go of and come to grips with the truth that that wasn’t going to work. And, that was a wrestling match and that took months to come to the point of saying ‘okay man this isn’t going to work, you gotta let that go.’ And, I’m glad I did because the movie would be quite different had I hung onto that.”

The rest of our conversation focuses on why he made “Finding Joe” in addition to some straightforward advice for other filmmakers who are trying to make an inspirational or transformational film. You can listen to our entire 9 minute conversation by clicking the play button below.

“Finding Joe” opens in theaters on the West Coast this weekend. For more information on where it is playing, please visit the film’s Web site at http://www.findingjoethemovie.com/.

Finding Joe is truly a transformational film that will help anyone who is wrestling with a personal dragon right now, but knows in their heart that they are on path. Or as Joseph Campbell said,

Follow your bliss and the Universe will open doors where there were only walls.

Nicholas Sparks (Notebook Author) sells TV show about an Archangel to ABC

September 22nd, 2011

Nicholas Sparks (Notebook Author) recently sold a TV show, Watchers, to ABC about an Archangel. The description from Hollywood Reporter yesterday says:

“The project revolves around the Archangel Raphael, who after spending centuries as a Watcher and invisibly providing support to humans in the time of need, decides to cut off his wings out of love for Sarah, a mortal woman, so that he can truly be with her for the rest of her days.  When Sarah’s life is cut short, Rafe is left to wander the Earth solo as a fallen angel. Dependent on the kindness of strangers and hunted by angels from above and below, Rafe travels undercover, performing miracles as he searches for the meaning of loss and clues to Sarah’s fate”

It kind of reminds me of City of Angels, which I thought was really inspiring…

Book Excerpt from The Golden Motorcycle Gang: A Story Of Transformation

September 20th, 2011

Oh, what glorious beings they were! Flying through the universe on their magnificent golden motorcycles, the cosmic wind in their hair, going wherever they chose, traveling at light speed, sometimes even faster. Their bodies were ephemeral yet defined, and they enjoyed the ageless youth gifted to their species. Only a few thousand years old, they were considered adolescents, not yet the elders of their planet or their universe—elders who each had tens of thousands of years of experience in dealing with complex worlds and the moral difficulties that arose from engaging those worlds.

The beings traveled through this beautiful, endless day, which was much like the many they’d enjoyed together on their annual solstice breaks. As the Class of 2012 at the Academy of Enlightenment, they were fast approaching the time when they would graduate and be given assignments to ensure the balance and stability of the universe for eons to come, much like their elders before them. Today, however, was a day to enjoy the carefree exhilaration of their youth and freedom.

Dozens of them rode together, sharing their boundless joy through their thoughts, for they communicated only with thoughts. Their thoughts shaped words, which they immediately understood; yet communication was instantaneous, faster than words could ever be, and infinitely more clear.

It was a perfect day and they were in high spirits. Suddenly Jack noticed a small bluish planet off to his right. It was about 50,000 miles below but clearly visible to him. “Hey, look over there. That planet seems to be in trouble. I can sense the energy coming from the surface—and it’s full of turmoil, sadness, anger, even rage. I’ve seen this planet before; I have sensed its people and their growth and their struggles. Although there have always been some discordant sparks from this world, I’ve never felt such sorrow as I’m feeling today.” Such was Jack’s instantaneous thought to his riding friends, or as they liked to call themselves, the Golden Motorcycle Gang.

On that magical motorcycle ride through the universe, Jack and his friends had easily picked up on the negative energy coming from planet Earth. The suffering radiating from the dazzling blue ball was unmistakable.

The year on Earth was 1943, and great conflict was raging on much of the planet. The battles engulfed a great deal of its middle band, from one great ocean to the next. The planet was divided into groups called “nations,” which were sometimes the result of geography but oftentimes the result of human choice. Many of the largest and most militarily well-armed nations were focused on the fighting. Almost all the human beings on the planet at that time were thinking about this great conflict, whether their nation would exist if and when the battles ever ended, and if their loved ones would survive and return from the battlefields around the world.

Jack looked around and realized that for perhaps the only time in his existence, he had no explanation for the energy being emitted by this planet. What was this “war,” as the humans called it? What in a human’s life could happen that would convince him or her that it was right and good to end the lives of millions of other identically created life-forms?

Jack decided he needed to learn as much as he could, as quickly as he could, about this concept of “war.” War was not a reality in the outer reaches of the universe where he lived, and although he lacked the understanding of the impulse to hate and kill, he knew he would not be able to help planet Earth unless he learned more about war.
