Busting Loose from the Business Game review
Warning: This review is not for the timid…
In Busting Loose from The Business Game, Robert Scheinfeld present a unique way of approaching your business, job and career.
The first part of the book explains how most of us have been conditioned to think about business. He refers to this perspective as: “The Big Lie.” The Big Lie is a summary of what you were taught to be true about The Business Game –- lies about rules, regulations, and how playing the game is supposed to work; lies about sales, marketing, management, leadership, and finance; lies about what it takes to succeed, and so on.
People who are stuck in this stage of the game can never truly succeed. He uses the example of race dogs chasing the rabbit. The dog will never catch the rabbit. The dog continues to chase after something illusory that it will never get. During The Big Lie, we can never succeed because any success is based on a separation of who we really are and an illusion. Even when we are “successful“ in the eyes of society and hit our sales numbers, get the job or make the money, we often do so at the cost of our health, happiness and relationships. Our ego is momentarily relieved, then we experience massive stress, anxiety and overwhelm because we know that we will have to reach some other artificial milestone to meet our ego’s and society’s never ending list of demands.
This part of the game (The Big Lie) is necessary though, because in order to bust loose from the Business Game, we must create a game worth winning. And, we can’t really enjoy the sweetness of winning a game, unless we overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles and put it all on the line.
The next part of the game is The Big Truth. In this part of the game we ask ourselves:
1. Who am I?
2. Why I am Here?
3. What is my purpose?
Schneifeld concedes that there is no way to know with absolute certainty the answers to these questions. However, we can come close and develop an instinctual knowingness to what the answers to these questions might be for our Self.
Additionally, Schneifeld provides a practical model that you can apply on a daily basis to take you from living in the The Big Lie to living The Big Truth. It is not a quick fix and takes time to practice living in The Big Truth. But, the more we use it and practice, the more his process becomes easier to apply and the easier it becomes to move from The Big Lie to The Big Truth.
Busting Loose from The Business Game is not for timid. However, for those who want to approach their business, job or career with hope, joy and excitement, Scheinfeld offers a unique model to help you achieve those goals.
Additionally, although the book is not overtly spiritual; the language he uses offers a paradigm to spiritualize your career. The heart of his message is to avoid separating who we really are (however you want to define that – whether that is Spirit or Higher Self or Expanded Self) from our business and career decisions. When we begin to see our business or career as the outpouring of our authentic or Higher Self, then we can create a life where our business and spiritual life become one and the same and separation between our spiritual and business life ceases to exist. Scheinfeld’s book offers a practical method to accomplish this noble goal.

I truly believe that we have reached the point where technology has become one with our society, and I think it is safe to say that we have passed the point of no return in our relationship with technology.I don’t mean this in a bad way, of course! Societal concerns aside… I just hope that as technology further develops, the possibility of uploading our brains onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It’s a fantasy that I daydream about all the time.(Posted using Qezv2 for R4i Nintendo DS.)
